_Predator Coaches

Barry Trotz began his pro hockey career in '88 as the Washington Capitol's western scout for North America. In '90, he became assistant coach of the Baltimore Skipjacks, a development club for the capitols in the AHL. He was named head coach there in '92.

In '93, Trotz became head coach and director of hockey operations for the AHL's Portland Pirates. That year, he guided the Pirates to the AHL Calder Cup Championship and received the AHL Coach of the Year. In his second season there, the Pirates established a new North American Professional Hockey Record by opening the season with a 17-game unbeaten streak. Trotz is 191-166-59 as a professional head coach.

Paul Gardner assumed second in command at Portland under Trotz in '93. Prior to Portland, Gardner held top coaching and scouting positions with development clubs for the Buffalo Sabres and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Gardner began his professional hockey career as a first round draft selection by the Colorado Rockies in '76. In the ten years in the NHL, Gardner played a total of 447 games with the Buffalo Sabres, Washington Capitols, Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Colorado Rockies. He scored 201 goals and had 201 assists.
